Recent Graduate Receives Award from NC Science Teachers Association

Recent Meredith graduate Allie Manchester, ’20, has received the Outstanding Student Teacher in Science Award from the North Carolina Science Teacher Association.

The award was announced on November 5 during a virtual ceremony. In the presentation, a quote from Manchester was shared that illustrates what she loves about teaching.

“I love that the kids are able to notice and wonder about what we’re learning in their everyday environment,” Manchester said. “I also love that the kids get to make their own background connections to each class.”

Manchester, who graduated with a B.A. in psychology and teaching licensure for grades K-6, was a Teaching Fellow at Meredith. She is now a teacher at East Garner Elementary School.

The nomination of Manchester for this award called her a future leader who teaches science process skills rather than only facts to be memorized.

In Spring 2020, Manchester was interviewed for an article about how ÌÇÐÄVlog student teachers had helped their classrooms adapt to a virtual model during the COVID-19 pandemic.
