President’s Message: Concerning Report Being Investigated
- Published
The message below is being posted on behalf of Meredith President Jo Allen, ’80.
Dear Meredith community,
Earlier today, the provost and I learned about a professor using racially-offensive language in a class last semester.
As we work to understand more about what happened, we acknowledge that this incident is hurtful for our students and others in our community. We are also investigating the processes by which such incidents are reported to leadership to ensure our students feel heard, safe, and supported.
We regret the pain this incident has caused our community and are taking steps to address the situation. Meredith is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and respectful community, as evidenced in part by our college-wide anti-racism initiative launched in the summer of 2020. This incident does not reflect the type of institution Meredith aspires to be.
We will update you as personnel policies and employment laws allow.
Sincerely,
Jo Allen, ’80
