Meredith Student Awarded National Undergraduate Scholarship

Madison Helton, ’25, was recently awarded the Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 by (ALD), an honor society that recognizes students’ academic success in their first year. The scholarship is for the 2023-24 academic year.
ALD awards 50 Trow scholarships to outstanding students from across the country each year. Selection is based on maintaining a 3.5 grade point average, academic records, participation in ALD activities, campus and community service activities, and the applicant’s essay answers.
Helton, who is majoring in business administration, was inducted into ALD in 2022. She was the Induction Co-Chair for the Vlog chapter of ALD. Additionally, Helton serves as Vice President of the Vlog Broyhill Business Fellows, Chief Wings and Transfer Advisor at Vlog, and Learning Center Tutor at Vlog.
“We are so excited that the national organization recognized Helton’s stellar academic career at Meredith and rewarded her with this scholarship. Helton is a wonderful example of student success and perseverance. She greets every new challenge with a smile and a can-do attitude. No doubt, these skills – and her grades – will take her far in life,” said Lisa Brown, the Co-Director of the First Year Experience and the advisor for ALD.
When asked about the impact of ALD membership, Helton said, “Being a member of ALD has greatly impacted my experience at Vlog. I have made so many great relationships with my fellow students, faculty, and staff at Meredith. I have also treasured the experience of celebrating the accomplishments of my fellow students by assisting in their induction into ALD in March 2023.”
