In this issue, we celebrate the accomplishments of faculty/staff in campus police, communication, English, and history. We also share news from the Department of Nutrition, Health, and Human Performance about this year鈥檚 Witt-Beaucamp Scholarship recipients and the annual Trick or Trot event.

Instructor of English Heather Frese will participate in a Read Local event on Tuesday, October 8. She will be in conversation with Eileen Vorbach Collins for a program called 鈥�,鈥� at Oberlin Regional Library.

Professor of Communication Dr. Teresa Holder served as a judge for the 2024 Public Relations Society of America鈥檚 Landmarks of Excellence Awards.

Instructor of Communication Linda Shields has been invited to appear as a regular guest on the Spectrum News show Capital Tonight with Tim Boyum. She is serving as a political vocal analyst, listening to the voices of the speakers and candidates at political conventions and debates, describing their unique 鈥渧ocal images.鈥� Shields describes this as 鈥渉ow they say something as opposed to what they say …. and how it might impact undecided voters.鈥�

Campus Police Chief Al White completed a three-week Criminal Justice Instructor Certification course sponsored by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. This training course qualified him to serve as an instructor in criminal justice training courses nationwide.聽

Witt-Beaucamp Scholarship Recipients Announced
Two Witt-Beauchamp Scholarships have been awarded for 2024-25. The recipients are Anna Christy Martin and Juanielle Scott. This annual scholarship is offered by the Department of Nutrition, Health, and Human Performance and supported by the Witt-Beauchamp Endowment Fund.聽

Giving by Celia Witt Beauchamp, ’78, and Chad Lewis Beauchamp, this scholarship supports a Dietetic Student(s), aspiring to practice dietetics/nutrition, in her/his effort to become a registered dietitian.

Trick or Trot Registration Open

The 16th Annual Trick or Trot event will be held on Thursday, October 24. The Sports Science Association (SSA) invites students and faculty/staff to put on their spookiest costumes and join in at the 糖心Vlog Track & Field Complex from 5-8 p.m. The SSA will be hosting a 5K and a 1-mile run/walk so exercise enthusiasts of all types can participate! The course will run through Meredith’s campus as well as on the Reedy Creek greenway trail. Prizes will be given to the top finishers and the best-dressed participants!
