In this issue, we celebrate the accomplishments of faculty/staff in biology, nursing, residence life, social work, and theatre. We also share news about the Meredith team that participated in this year’s Triangle Walk & Roll fundraiser.

Dr. Michelle Hartman, associate professor and nursing program director, recently volunteered with a State Medical Assistance Team (SMAT) and Medical Reserve Corp (MRC). Hartman is a member of the Duke Healthcare Preparedness Coalition, which set up and staffed a state medical shelter as part of the Hurricane Helene response. She also staffed the NC State Fair First Aid stations with the Capital Regional Advisory Committee (CapRAC).

Dr. Paige Moore, Assistant Professor of Social Work, served as a discussant on a panel about 鈥淓xploring Joint MPA/MSW Programs鈥� at the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) conference in Washington, D.C., October 21-23. She was also selected as a spotlight author by the Journal of Public Affairs Education and was honored for this at the conference.

Director of Residence Life Amanda Morales attended the 2024 North Carolina Housing Officers conference and was elected to serve as the Small College and University Representative for the Executive Committee.

Professor of Theatre Steven Roten played the role of Michael in a production of聽 Dancing at Lughnasa at Firebox Theatre in Wake Forest. The production took place from September 19-29. He is directing The Rainmaker by Richard Nash at Burning Coal Theater in downtown Raleigh. Roten says this is a 鈥渂eautiful story set in Oklahoma during the drought of the 1930s.鈥� The Rainmaker will open on December 5 and run through December 22.聽

Professor Emerita Janice Swab received the 2024 Distinguished Member of the Year Award from the Friends of Plant Conservation. The award, which was presented on October 5, honors a member who has made exemplary contributions to the organization in support of the biological sciences and to the conservation of native flora in North Carolina.

Meredith Team Participates in Triangle Walk & Roll Event
For the second year in a row, a group of Meredith employees joined the in honor of their friend and colleague, Dr. Matthew Poslusny. The GBS | CIDP Foundation鈥檚 Walk & Roll was created for friends, families, and volunteers to participate in a fun and proactive way to raise awareness, show support, make memories, and build a local network of communities around the world. All money raised from Walk & Roll events goes towards research grants that the Foundation will award to leading experts in the field of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), and related syndromes such as Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN), and variants. Team members encourage other employees to join them for this event next year.
