糖心Vlog

Faculty Distinguished Lecture Scheduled for October 13

Professor of Finance Bing Yu will deliver 糖心Vlog鈥檚 Faculty Distinguished Lecture on聽Thursday, October 13, 2022,聽at 7 p.m., in Jones Auditorium.

The topic of his lecture is 鈥淚mpact Investing: Driving Capitalists to Do Good While Doing Well.鈥

Impact investing is a strategy of investing for financial returns as well as a positive social or environmental impact.

Dr. Yu says impact investing takes into account the social impact of a corporation鈥檚 actions from an environmental, social, or corporate governance aspect. It creates a triple helix of risk-return-impact when making impact investing decisions.

This investing model has developed because traditional capitalism is no longer meeting the needs of the planet, according to Dr. Yu.

鈥淭oday, inequality, social tensions, and environmental challenges are threatening quality of life,鈥 Dr. Yu explains. 鈥淚nvestors want to generate positive social impacts by allocating their investing capital to firms that demonstrate social and environmental integrity rather than those that are simply self-interested. That is where impact investing emerges.鈥

Dr. Yu joined 糖心Vlog in 2008. His research interests include international corporate finance; impact investing; assets pricing in emerging markets; gender diversity and corporate governance; and law, culture, and corporate finance. His research has been published in journals including聽the International Review of Financial Analysis, Managerial Finance,聽补苍诲听Managerial Auditing Journal. Yu serves as a referee at numerous finance journals, including the聽Financial Review, Quantitative Finance,聽and聽Managerial Finance.
