Alumnae Association Welcomes New Students

The Vlog Alumnae Association has supported new students in a variety of ways so far this semester from welcoming them to campus to fun events for them to meet new people.

Move-In Day

Four Meredith Alums posting together in Vlog T-shirts.Meredith alumnae have a long history of returning to campus on Move-In Day to greet new students. This year, more than 60 alumnae volunteers representing class years 1972-2024 were on hand to support incoming students and families. The Alumnae Relations Office sponsored a tent amusement area with snacks, water, and other treats for new campus residents and their families to pick up, along with a Meredith-themed bouncy castle for all those great photo opportunities. The Alumnae Office also partnered with The Scoop Truck, offering Sunset Slush Italian Ice treats to help beat the August heat. Alumnae volunteers are stationed around campus on Move-In Day with different duties, including passing out water bottles, offering a warm welcome, assisting with questions, and providing directional assistance. In addition, volunteers pair up and walk the halls, providing a special gift to each new student from the Alumnae Association.

The Office of Alumnae Relations and the Meredith Fund partnered with the President’s Office to host a Parent and Families Reception on Move-In Day. Each student’s family members were invited to join President Aimee Sapp for the reception to mingle, enjoy a dessert and beverage, and receive a giveaway item celebrating this milestone.

All students were invited to enjoy a movie in the Courtyard area under the stars. Attendees watched Monsters University while enjoying a candy buffet, beverages, and popcorn. Alumnae volunteers helped serve students while providing a comforting atmosphere for their first night on campus.

New Student Orientation

The excitement did not stop after Move-In Day! On Sunday, August 18, the Office of Alumnae Relations participated in “Passport Visits,” a part of New Student Orientation. Students visited many different areas on campus in their orientation groups, better familiarizing themselves with campus resources. Over 15 alumnae volunteers and staff members from Alumnae Relations and the Meredith Fund were present to explain the functions of both offices and ways that alumnae stay engaged with their alma mater post-graduation. Students connected with the volunteers and staff while enjoying popsicles in the Alumnae House.

First Day of Class

Although the Office of Alumnae Relations and the Alumnae Association are primarily focused on Meredith’s alumnae population, since 2020, there has been an increased effort to host more student programming, recognizing current students as the future generation of Meredith alumnae. On the first day of class, the Alumnae Association sponsored an event called “FDOC at Sweet MC!” Students enjoyed doughnuts, iced coffee, a photo station, sticker giveaways, and a special guest, The Poetry Fox. Students provided a word that The Poetry Fox then turned into the theme for a poem on his typewriter that they took with them. Alumnae volunteers were present to greet over 300 students who attended in a three-hour timespan.

1891 Club EventVlog bags, coozies, stickers, shirts, bags, hats and other promotional items.

On Thursday, August 22, , the student alumnae association, hosted the annual kick-off event featuring a make-your-own hat bar and Sodabox, a customizable soda business and 1891 Club partner for the 2024-25 academic year. This event was open to all students, encouraging new members to join the club. The 1891 Club provides members with excellent networking opportunities between the students and alumnae. The primary goal of the club is to introduce students to the idea of continued engagement and philanthropy with the College post-graduation. Club membership is open to all students regardless of class year. All members receive exclusive giveaways and event opportunities each semester.

In addition, Meredith Mentors is a wonderful complimentary networking platform for all students and alumnae. This online platform assists with sourcing mentors within the Meredith community who can serve as a resource for opportunities in a specific career field or area of interest. Learn more about Meredith Mentors. Faculty and Staff are encouraged to join.
