Our Dual Engineering Degree
The dual degree engineering program is an agreement between Meredith and North Carolina State University where you will simultaneously complete the academic requirements of both institutions. Students must meet the program eligibility requirements. Once graduating from the five-year program, you will earn two degrees – one from each institution.
In this program, you will develop your leadership and communication skills by deepening your knowledge through internships and guidance from professional mentors. As a graduate of this program, you will be qualified to take on the distinctive challenges engineers face in today’s global society.
Meredith’s commitment to educating, supporting, and promoting women as leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics will give you the strength to make an impact in the professional field. Our dual degree engineering program offers three different tracks.
Dual Engineering Degree Options

Why Study Engineering at Meredith?
- Engineering students earn two degrees in five years, making them strong candidates for leadership positions within the professional field.
- Through hands-on experiences, students will gain the creative, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills that are highly sought after by employers.
- Examples of internships completed by students include
- NASA Kennedy Space Center
- NC Department of Transportation (DOT)-Congestion Management Section through the Entrepreneurial Training Women and Girls Program with U.S. DOT
- Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at North Carolina State University
- Access to 13 dedicated research labs housed in Meredith’s Science and Mathematics Building (SMB), which contains 80,000 square feet of learning space.
- The Hazel Lee Gaddis Engineering Scholarship is exclusive to Meredith’s dual degree engineering program.
- Graduates emerge from the program uniquely qualified to take on the distinctive challenges engineers face in today’s global society.
- Examples of student success in Meredith’s dual engineering degree program include Carlee Joseph, ’19, who completed internships through the Department of Defense (DOD) Pathways Program and the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) as an engineering intern supporting full-time engineers and gaining experience in the life cycle support of naval aircrafts, including research, repair, design, test, and evaluation. She now works as a manufacturing engineer at GE Aviation.
Learn By Doing
As a first-year dual-engineering major at Meredith, students gain valuable experience through a class working on a stripped-down electric car. The practical knowledge, essential problem-solving skills, and connections gained during this class prepare engineering students to succeed as they move into more challenging courses.
E-Car Quick Facts
- Top Speed about 40 MPH
- 50 mile range
- Six 12-Volt lead acid batteries
- BEV: a battery electric vehicle that runs 100% on electricity
- Used for IDS-111 (Engineering Challenges and Ethics) and undergraduate research projects
