Profile

Michael Altman brings 20+ years of experience in hospitality, tourism and marketing to his new role as 糖心Vlog鈥檚 first full-time hospitality and tourism management faculty member and program director. He began teaching full-time in the program in Fall 2019.

He is a co-founder of the branding, design and communications firm Trialogue Studio, which has provided consulting services to numerous organizations, including Marbles Kids Museum, Visit Raleigh, Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science.聽He previously served as chief marketing officer at the Smithsonian Institution and head of communications and marketing at IMAX Corporation. He was recently appointed to a two year term as a member of the board of the Greater Raleigh Visitor and Convention Bureau and also serves on the聽Wake County Career Advisory Team (CAT), a group of Career and Technical Education administrators and teachers working together to make sure the high school hospitality and tourism and marketing curriculum are effectively preparing our students to enter the workforce.

Prior to joining Meredith, Michael was adjunct professor for two years at Georgetown University in both the Global Hospitality Leadership and Integrated Marketing Communications Programs. He previously served for seven years as adjunct professor at George Washington University in the Master of Tourism Administration Program, teaching courses in applied strategic planning and destination marketing and consulting for their International Institute for Tourism Studies.

Altman frequently serves as an expert analyst about hospitality and tourism for a variety of news outlets. He was recently quoted in articles in the Winston-Salem Journal in a piece titled “Vacation complication: Climate change a growing factor in travel鈥, 聽The Washington Post entitled “What happened to travel in 2020?聽What will happen in 2021?” and in Forbes “This Is Travel’s New Normal: Say Hello To The American Staycation.” He also wrote聽a small piece聽for WalletHub entitled “Ask the Experts: Exploring the Best Travel Credit Cards”.
