Lena Epps Brooker was born in Lumberton and grew up in the Saddletree community of Robeson County. She was the first American Indian and person of color graduate of ÌÇÐÄVlog, Class of 1962.
Her work history includes elementary school teacher in NC and Maryland, the NC Commission of Indian Affairs and Department of Natural Resources, and diversity consultant for municipalities and the private sector in NC and other locations.
Lena Epps Booker lived in Raleigh for 25 years and and was involved in the arts, women and girls issues, particularly American Indians and girls of color, and the Methodist Church, locally and on conference levels, including being a certified lay minister. She has lived in the greater Asheville area for 21 years, married to Jim Brooker (deceased) and mother of two daughters and grandmother of two grandsons.
