Ann Batson James is chairman of the Meredith Legacy Scholarship Committee which she joined in 2007 and is the liaison to the Campaign Planning Committee. Other service to Meredith is as a member of the Friends of Sansepolcro and the Human Environmental Services Centennial Committee.
Most recently, James worked for Verizon Communications in their government affairs office in Washington. Her expertise in financial analysis, negotiation, aptitude and personality assessment and her writing skills honed in Dr. Ione Knight’s English classes at Meredith served her well during her years in D.C.
She is a family historian and is writing a series of biographic sketches based on her thirty years of research. She is a member of several lineage organizations including DAR, Daughters of 1812, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Daughters of the American Colonists and Dames of the Court of Honor, serving in leadership positions when called upon to do so.
James has an AB degree in Home Economics from Meredith and a MS degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from ECU. She has continued her education by taking courses through the University of Virginia in human resources management and accounting. She has also studied the Scottish Gaelic language.
