The ability to speak a foreign language will maximize a person’s ability to gain employment in any field. Spanish is spoken by millions of people around the globe and the United States has the fifth largest Spanish-speaking population in the world. Many employers prefer candidates with Spanish proficiency in a wide range of fields including medicine, education, human resources, diplomacy, international relations, immigration, law, and more. Skills learned with a Spanish major are applicable in a variety of fields: cultural competence, knowledge of global issues, critical thinking, resiliency, ability to work in groups, conflict negotiation and resolution, and problem solving.
