For Transfer Students: Three Great Reasons to Put Meredith on Your List

A group of three students sitting in a circle in the grass together.

Whether you are transferring from a community college, a four-year college, or completing an interrupted college education, Meredith can help you finish your degree and achieve your goals. And we鈥檒l help you make a smooth transition to Meredith 鈥 both academically and socially. Here are three reasons to put Meredith on your list as a transfer student.

Reason 1: Financial Assistance

Unfortunately, transfer students may not consider private schools like Meredith because they assume that public schools are more cost-effective. As you are looking at all of your options, keep in mind that there is no way to fully know what your cost of attendance will be until you鈥檝e completed the application and financial assistance process.

At private colleges like Meredith, the majority of students do not pay the price of tuition listed on the website. Over 95% of our students receive scholarships or financial assistance – and that includes transfer students. In addition to need-based assistance that you can access by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Meredith has a range of scholarships and grants to help fund your education.

For example, we offer Transfer Tuition Grants and Merit Academic Scholarships to recognize transfer students whose previous college records reflect superior academic ability, achievement and leadership potential. Those awards range from $8,500 – $13,000, and the award can be renewed each year. We also offer the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) scholarship, which awards $5,000 per year to students who have been inducted into the PTK Honor Society, and this scholarship can be combined with other assistance.

Reason 2: Community

As a transfer student, you may be worried that it will be difficult to connect socially. Or you may be really looking forward to the 鈥渇ull college experience,” including on-campus involvement and studying abroad. Either way, we鈥檝e got your back. Meredith offers a variety of ways to become involved, from fun traditions to more than 100 clubs and organizations – and we are here help connect you with these opportunities through the support of our transfer student resources.

In addition to the experiential and academic advantages you鈥檒l see below, small class sizes often found at private colleges make it easy to meet other students who share your interests. It鈥檚 less challenging to break the ice and meet someone new in a small, discussion-based classroom than it is in a large lecture hall. But building community at Meredith starts even before your first class. Here, you鈥檒l participate in New Student Orientation with a smaller sub-group of transfer students, which will provide you with an immediate opportunity to start making connections – both with new students and current Meredith students.

Reason 3: Return on Investment

Transfer students are particularly aware that college is an investment and want to be sure it pays off. Meredith offers a number of benefits that ensure your time and money are well-spent.

  • Our smaller class sizes ensure that your professors听will get to know you and will therefore be able to recommend you for internships, jobs, and on-campus opportunities.
  • Build your resume through real world experience and learn to apply the knowledge you gain in the classroom. 92% of our students participate in some type of applied learning experience including study abroad, undergraduate research, internships, and more.
  • Choose from more than 90 majors and minors to challenge you. You don鈥檛 have to know your major when you鈥檙e admitted, but if you do, you can hit the ground running with classes in your major. In some larger schools, you may have to wait to be admitted into a particular school.
  • We offer personalized advising to help you find or complete an area of study that aligns with your strengths through StrongPoints.
  • Meredith has articulation agreements with the North Carolina Community College system that can help facilitate completion of your degree.

There are many factors to consider when making a decision about transferring. Hopefully, these points offered some insight as to why Meredith might be a good fit for you. See what other students who have transferred to Meredith have to say.
